High performance rods and small cavity pultrusions

As demand increased for high-performance pultrusions, Pultron made major investments in R&D to develop specialised pultrusions with characteristics which out-performed those of standard pultrusions.  Pultron's R&D programmes focused on four key areas:

  1. Short beam shear strength (SBSS): Many applications for FRP composites require high SBSS.  Our research identified parameters controlling SBSS.  Materials and processing parameters were selected to optimise SBSS.
  2. Fatigue resistance: Composite springs require high fatigue resistance to ensure longevity. Our research focused on developing material systems to enhance fatigue resistance.
  3. Creep resistance: Creep resistance becomes important in applications where the composite is continuously under a significant load.  Creep becomes more pronounced at elevated temperatures.  Material systems were developed to maximise creep resistance, ensuring loaded composite parts are functioning properly for longer periods.
  4. Durability: Composites, particularly those used in the construction industry, are required to have good durability. Our research focused on effects of different environments on physical properties of composites.  Material systems were developed to ensure maximum durability.
